Justina Beth-El

Justina Beth-El2.jpg

Justina Beth-El had a passion for writing raw, uncensored lyrics and emotive melodies from an early age. She followed her passion through any musical outlet available to her leading her to launch her professional music career in 2015 as the lead singer, songwriter and arranger for the DC area band, L.A.T.O.

After a variety of successes with L.A.T.O.  in the DC area - performing at The Kennedy Center, winning the Mid-Atlantic Battle of the Bands, touring the east coast, and recording her first album - Justina Beth-El relocated to Los Angeles.  Leaving her band behind, she was forced to pick up her guitar again and return to her roots as a singer/songwriter, ultimately transforming her music into a more open and vulnerable experience.

After performing at some of the most acclaimed venues in the LA area for up-and-coming artists  - The Hotel Cafe, The Viper Room, The Mint, and several others - she returned to the DC area to continue making waves in the DC music scene.

One of the most notable elements of Justina Beth-El's performances is how heavily she leans into her audience. She believes that every performance is an intimate conversation with a group of mostly strangers. For that reason,  every performance is a new experience that cannot be replicated and an opportunity to really connect with people in an unconventional way. This is what she lives for, and she invites you to join the conversation.

Sharif

Sharif - who is currently earning his Masters at the Berklee College of Music - has made quite a name for himself on the charts and on the touring front. Vacillating from playing intimate solo acoustic shows of his original material to belting out cover tunes (from Rihanna's "Disturbia" to Maroon 5's "Won't Go Home Without You" to Beastie Boys "Girls") at biker bars to playing one of his favorite genres of music, oldies, at retirement centers (because he wants to, not because he has to) to corporate gigs for Gap and Amstel Light to opening for the likes of Jason Mraz, Kenny Loggins, Rhett Miller, Rusted Root, and Blake Shelton.

"Music consumes me," explains Sharif, who has approximately 2,000 shows around the world under his belt. "I just love playing music, teaching music, learning more about music, and doing whatever I can to get there."

Music Connection magazine named Sharif one of the top unsigned artists in the US, while Kisses and Lies landed on many year-end best-of lists. Also, “Another Wasted Rose” received an honorable mention in the Billboard World Song Contest while “Dark Side of the Dawn” charted on the national FMQB charts. Sharif has also worked with legendary songsmith Desmond Child, landed endorsement deals with 10 major companies (including Gibson Guitars, Taylor Guitars, D'Addario Strings, and Red Bull), and garnered press accolades such as Vintage Guitar magazine calling his last release "an often moving, overwhelmingly pleasing, well-constructed album."

Wim Tapley

wim tapley 1.png

At the age of 18, Wim Tapley is one of the most ambitious artists in the D.C. area. After growing up as a musician and songwriter, he honed his craft by playing live at all of the bars, restaurants, and small venues in his hometown of South Riding, VA, leading worship at his church, and producing his own music.

Pulling from an incredibly diverse range of influences stemming from a lifetime of being a dedicated music nerd, Wim's ability to seamlessly blend styles ranging from biting Ennio Morricone-esque spaghetti western to tender neo-soul consistently pushes the barriers of his genre-defying sound.

After the coronavirus stifled his plans to pursue music as a street performer in Dublin, Ireland, Wim graduated high school early in order to record his first full length LP while under quarantine. His debut album, "The Woodlands," was nominated for multiple Wammies awards, and Wim is currently at work on his second LP.

Eli Cook - LIVE Acoustic

Eli-Cook-BW-small.jpg

Eli was born at the foot of the mountains of Virginia, and with no TV growing up, he spent Saturday nights around the radio with local shows and Prairie Home Companion. He picked up the guitar at age 13 after watching his older brother play and began to teach himself. Within two years, he was playing solo acoustic guitar for gospel revivals and electric blues in a power trio in local “juke joints.”

A student of several musical tastes, Cook took what he heard on the record player and radio melding it into his own, which makes him stand out. At 18 with a bone-shaking growl and bonafide blues guitar chops, he was received by fans and critics as a torch bearer for a slew of historical players, from Son House to Leadbelly to today’s modern players, like Chris Smither and Rory Block.

As the country sounds of Appalachia crept in, Eli did not flinch; “It didn’t seem unnatural,” says Cook, who was the product of a rural Southern upbringing where people moved easily between genres. “It’s what was around me, and I just tried to pick up on everything and everybody, including Doc Watson and Chet Atkins. In fact, hearing Chet fingerpick made me realize I didn’t need a band.” (Source: Guitar Player 2007)

Cook continues to evolve his musical presentations to accommodate various performance offers that come calling. “I loved to push my presentations in different directions, whether it be in workshops, and other venues, with other traditional American roots music elements to have more of an in-depth, cultural content to what I do. But without blues as the integral ingredient, music just ain’t worth listening to in my book.”

Brad Pugh

An acoustic night with Brad Pugh!

Brad Pugh from Practically Einstein, a staple on the DC scene for years, has toured everywhere from New York to New Orleans, as well as throughout parts of Europe, with regular stops in Finland, Denmark and the Czech Republic.

PE recently released the EP "Love + Hate" at the Rock & Roll Hotel in Washington, DC. Produced with Jim Ebert (Ice Cube, Butch Walker, Everclear, Cowboy Mouth) at Cue Studios , the EP is a anticipated collection of songs about the opposing forces that can come to a boil in the heart and mind. From the devil-may-care spirit of the single “Massive in Japan”, to the dark passion of “When the World Explodes”, the songs exhibit a range of influences, much from the alt-rock heyday of the ‘90’s (Catherine Wheel, Buffalo Tom, Sugar, Del Amitri, Matthew Sweet, Supergrass, Soul Asylum, Pearl Jam, Guided by Voices), and spiked with doses of Britpop, Americana and soul.

PE mixes in a highly eclectic mix of covers, including MGMT, Franz Ferdinand, Hall & Oates, Wheatus, Kings of Leon, the Strokes, Green Day, the Ramones, and Nirvana. The guys rarely follow a set list, but make sure to keep the energy high, and the rock and roll authentic. So make a request, and we'll see you at the bar!
